Dignities of the planets

The AxWap Astrology app automatically calculates the essential and accidental dignity of planets whenever time changes, charts shift, astrological house system changes, and so on. It is displayed in the Dignity column of the planet table for the selected astrological chart.
For example, in the first image below, you can see that the Moon has a -4/14 dignity.

• -4 is an essential dignity, depending on the planet's position in a specific zodiac sign, its decanate, term, and triplicity.
• 14 is an accidental dignity, depending on the planet's position in an astrological house, its speed, retrograde motion, conjunction with stars, critical points, and other factors discussed below.

Open the AxWap Astrology app and tap the Tables icon or swipe left. You will see a table of aspects and a table of planetary positions and astrological houses. Select the planet table. Tapping any planet, in this case the Moon, opens a decryption window explaining the components of the planet's dignity. If an interpretation file is loaded, a text interpretation of the planet's position appears (see the second image).

Let's take a closer look at what makes up the dignity of the Moon (-4 / 14):

• Essential dignity: Moon in Capricorn: -4 (exile).
  There is nothing else for Essential dignity.
• Accidental dignity: Moon in the 1st House: 5
  Moon outside of combust degrees (far from the Sun): 5
  Planet in direct motion (direct): 4
  Planet of fast running: 2
  Waning Moon: -2
  Moon in opposition to Saturn: -4
  Moon in conjunction with a critical point: 4
  Total (sum): 14

Calculating the Essential and Accidental Dignity of Planets in the AxWap Astrology App

The AxWap Astrology app calculates planetary dignities based on several editable tables. The word editable means that any knowledgeable and prudent user can customize them, save them to configuration files, and load other users' configurations. By default, these tables are populated with the most commonly used data.
To view and edit the tables, follow these steps:

1. Press the Edit button.

2. Click Settings.

3. Click Dignities of the Planets - Edit.

4. A window will appear to edit the planetary dignities.

Let's take a closer look at the elements in the dignities of the Bodies window:

• Zodiac Sign Rulers - a crucial setting, not directly related to calculating planetary dignities. It assigns planetary rulers to zodiac signs and, accordingly, the rulers of the astrological houses whose cusps are located in the corresponding signs. It is divided into daytime and nighttime. It is used in interpreting astrological charts.

Essential dignity

• Planets in Zodiac Signs - sets the essential dignity of planets in zodiac signs (domicile, exaltation, detriment, fall). The table is divided into daytime and nighttime. The default values are from -5 to 5.
• Planets in Triplicity - sets the essential dignity of planets in Triplicity. The table is divided into daytime and nighttime. The default value is 3 when the planet is in its triplicity.
• Planets in Terms - sets the essential dignity of planets in Terms. The default value is 2 when the planet is in its term.
• Planets in Decans - sets the essential dignity of planets in Decans. The default value is 1 when the planet is in its decan.

Accidental dignity

• Planets in Astrological Houses - sets the accidental dignity of planets in astrological houses. The default values range from -5 to 5.
• The orb of the planet's aspect to Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn is taken into account when analyzing the conditions described in the table below. The default is 3°.
• The orb of the planet's conjunction with stars, critical points, and other planets described in the table below is taken into account. The default is 2°.
