Good day. I hope my story about the experience of getting rid of stuttering will be useful to someone. I am sending it for posting on the forum. I have not tried axSoft Speech corrector, but I want to feel the effect of the program on myself. Thanks to the creators of this program.
I have a lot of experience in treating stuttering and I want to share it with other people.
As far back as I can remember, I have always, since kindergarten, visited some specialists, these were speech therapists, psychics, homeopaths, and psychologists. The desire to get rid of this illness was enormous.
I will write about the main methods that, in my opinion, brought me at least some benefit.
Homeopathy. When I was about 15, we went to a homeopath, he prescribed medications that I took for about a month, and they really helped me. I felt easier when answering in class, I communicated more smoothly with friends, almost without any hesitation. It was one of those short periods when I enjoyed speaking.
After a month and a half, to enhance the effect, I was prescribed stronger medications, and then everything returned to normal. Disappointment led to the fact that we did not communicate with this doctor for a long time, and then his private clinic moved altogether, all traces of it were lost, which I regret a little.
Hypnosis. Later I encountered hypnosis, the hypnosis session was reinforced by self-hypnosis instructions prescribed by the doctor. Again, the result lasted for a week or two. Now I think that perhaps we then got to a scammer, because when we contacted him again, he could not advise or do anything at all. I heard a lot about hypnosis treatment later, and who knows, maybe if you find a real specialist with regular sessions it will be useful.
Speech therapy. It is better to use it in combination. Speech therapists helped me a little to pronounce the letters "p" and "t", to stretch words slightly. The exercises develop diction, but do not combat the problem of spasms.
Strelnikova gymnastics. I did Strelnikova gymnastics for a long time, first on my own, then with a group. I will not criticize any methods here, I will only say that this gymnastics did not help me. Perhaps it improves the health of the lungs, develops mobility, makes the voice loud, and is good in combination with other methods, but it does not get rid of stuttering by itself, at least not in my case, but maybe everything is individual.
Another important stage in my life was using a metronome. I read on one of the forums that you need to turn it on almost all day long as a background. That's what I did. I still sometimes listen to it on my player when I make phone calls. It's really easier to talk. When I'm alone, I read syllable by syllable - one syllable - one metronome beat - I set the frequency low - 80-90 beats per minute, the speech comes out a little abrupt, strange, but I think it's not scary. I used to go to stores with a metronome in my headphones.
Since the purpose of the story is to share experience, warn against mistakes, give advice to people who have just encountered this disease and are wondering what to do. In fact, a lot can be said. Firstly, the choice of methods and doctors should be approached with caution.
Stuttering is a very complex condition, and most often those who offer to cure it only ease its course, you should not hope for a lightning-fast effect, but you also need to be able to rejoice in small victories. I would also like to say something about sports.
Do sports, you don't necessarily have to go to some sections, but if you squat 30 times a day, do 15 push-ups, and that will be useful. Especially helpful are sharp exercises - jumping, swinging arms/legs, running. Speaking immediately becomes much easier. And just develop. Find a hobby to your liking and try with all your might to compensate for your lack of speech, good studies at school/college, other successes. This is an excellent way to overcome the inferiority complex that develops with a speech problem and which at the same time causes even more anxiety.
Gradually, the stuttering will begin to recede. At school, it was always difficult for me to force myself to answer in writing, and I felt humiliated even more than when I couldn’t pronounce a word for a long time.
In fact, there is nothing wrong with this, accepting the situation is one of the steps to normal speech. I would like to advise parents of children who stutter to learn to speak more slowly themselves, at least with the child, not to interrupt him, listen to him until the end, and also support him in every possible way. I would recommend being on the child's side in any situation, living with stuttering is difficult and parents should understand this.
Now I'm 30, I can't say that I've completely corrected my speech, but I speak better. I catch myself thinking that I've taken a little from each method that I've ever used. If you have any questions for me, please write to nadia-nadezh-da@yandex.ru, I'll try to answer them.
