Flowrate primary devices

General information

The unit for calculating primary devices for measuring the flow rate of the substance was first added to the Instrumentation & Automation application in version 1.12. It is based on the GOST 8.586.1-5-2005 and ISO-5167 standards. The calculations are absolutely transparent, the intermediate results of the calculation are displayed in a handy report in the form of a WEB page. Examples of reports are shown in the table:

It is launched from the main menu list, selecting «The flowrate primary devices» point. In this case, a list of types of primary devices for calculating the flow rate of the substance appears. These can be Orifice plates, ISA 1932 Nozzles, Long radius and Venturi nozzles. Figure 1 shows that each type of primary device contains the kinds of substances for which flow calculations are performed. After selecting the desired device type and the substance to be measured, a new window appears - the primary device card for measuring the flowrate of the selected substance.

Figure 2 shows that an orifice plate was chosen as the primary device, and the substance is a natural gas.

When the primary device card is opened, it is filled with preset input data for this type of primary device and the substance to be measured.
Calculation of the flow is done automatically.

Required data for calculating the flowrate primary device

In order to calculate the primary device for the flow of the substance to be measured, it is necessary to know the design features of the device and the parameters of the substance whose flow is calculated.
This is described in detail in GOST 8.586.1-5-2005 / ISO-5167.

Getting Started

As mentioned above, when you open any card of the primary device, it is filled with pre-installed data from the database that can not be deleted, or modified by the user. But you can save it under a different name, duplicate, and then open, close and change as you like.

After the data appears in the card, the calculation of the primary device is immediately performed and a report is generated, which can be viewed by selecting the appropriate action from the card menu.

The user of the program can change any parameters of the primary device and the physical properties of the measured substance. Any changes in input data result in immediate recalculation or differential pressure on the device with unchanged flow rate or a change in flow with a constant differential pressure. It depends on the direction of calculation. The main calculations, however are the calculations of the flow at a given differential pressure or a derivation of a differential pressure at a given flow rate.

It should be noted that if the boundaries of the calculation conditions are violated (primary drvice design, parameters of the measured substance), then a pop-up error warning is displayed after the calculation is done.
